How to Eliminate Defects of Low-E Tempered Glass for Curtain Wall

In the last FAQ article, we knew that in order to ensure safety, curtain wall glass should be tempered by glass tempering furnace. However, some defects will occur to Low-E tempered glass for various reasons. Now, let's learn how to eliminate the defects of Low-E tempered glass for curtain wall.

A. Reduce furnace temperature and prolong heating time. First of all, make sure that the coating surface temperature will not exceed certain upper limit of temperature in the process of heating, i.e. not higher than 630 Celsius. This is not to say that the furnace temperature setting is not higher than 630 Celsius. As a matter of fact, usually the furnace set temperature for Low-E glass is 40 Celsius lower than it for heating clear float glass; the heating time setting usually should be prolonged 50% or so based upon the float glass tempering. This can relatively reduce the heat loss of radiant heat in the process of heating and weaken the effect of coating on heating Low-E glass for curtain wall.

B. Increase the upper heating balance in the heating furnace.  Generally the heating balance plays a role of fine adjustment and enables the balance between heating furnace and roller temperatures. When heating the Low-E glass for curtain wall, because of furnace temperature lowering and furnace compensation capacity weakening, to increase the air volume of heat balance and hot air circulation and use forced convection can enable the coating surface to absorb more heat more rapidly through convection instead of radiation, which is helpful for even heating, so that the upper and lower surfaces of glass can be uniformly heated to the required tempering temperature. 

C. Increase air pressure and adjust balance between upper and lower air pressure for the temperature of Low-E glass for curtain wall from heating furnace to chiller is a little lower than that of float glass from heating furnace to chiller, the air pressure should be increased properly and the balance between upper and lower air pressures should be adjusted so as to ensure the flatness of Low-E glass for curtain wall.

D. Operation changes 
The furnace temperature is set lower in tempering the Low-E glass for curtain wall, thus the heat supply is relatively deficient, which results in the compensation capacity weakening of furnace temperature difference. Therefore this requires proper changes of operation so that the glass tempering machine can work better. The operation changes should be as follows: first, after several times of tempering of Low-E glass for curtain wall, keep furnace idle for one cycle and restore the temperature balance;  second, the Low-E glass for curtain wall should be placed alternately as practical as possible so as to keep a balance between acquired and absorbed heat; third, properly reduce the loading length and conveying speed and increase the amplitude of glass oscillation in heating furnace so as to improve the surface quality of Low-E glass for curtain wall.
